At Lelo Metals, we’re investing in the future of scrap metal recycling in North Wales. Our new shear machine brings 600 tonnes of cutting force, a six-metre compression box and remote-controlled tracks to our Corwen yard.

It is a practical investment in how we handle bulky scrap, prepare metal for recycling and keep our yard working efficiently. For customers, it reflects our commitment to providing the best scrap yard experience we can, backed by capable equipment, helpful service and responsible recycling.

600 tonnes of cutting power for bulky scrap metal

A scrap metal shear uses hydraulic force to cut large metal items into smaller, manageable sections. Combined with compression, this helps prepare bulky material for storage, handling and onward recycling.

Our new machine delivers an impressive 600 tonnes of cutting force. Its powerful diesel engine and hydraulic system provide the muscle needed to process substantial metal loads, helping us tackle material that would be difficult to handle in its original form.

The machine prepares scrap for the next stage of recycling. It cuts and compacts the metal; the material can then continue through the recycling chain to become a resource for manufacturing.

A six-metre compression box built for large loads

The six-metre compression box gives the machine room to work with bulky material, including light scrap, prepared car bodies and suitable ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Ferrous metals contain iron, with steel being a common example. Non-ferrous metals include materials such as aluminium and copper. Different grades need appropriate sorting and handling, so our team assesses the material and the right processing route.

Compressing and cutting scrap into more manageable loads helps us organise material for the next stage of its journey. It is particularly useful when dealing with large, awkward items and volumes of metal from business, trade and industrial work.

Remote-controlled tracks bring the machine to the scrap

One of the machine’s most useful features is its mobility. Self-propelled tracks let the operator move the whole unit using a remote control, bringing it directly to the scrap pile rather than repeatedly transporting material to a fixed machine.

It can move between processing areas as work changes around the yard. This flexibility helps reduce unnecessary handling and the time spent moving heavy scrap back and forth, supporting a more efficient workflow.

Reducing avoidable material movement also creates opportunities to limit the fuel and labour associated with those journeys. That is a practical improvement to the way our yard operates.

Investing in a greener future for North Wales

Metal recycling keeps useful resources in circulation. Recovered scrap can replace some of the raw materials used in metal production, helping reduce demand for mining and the energy required to manufacture new metal.

As a proud member of the British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA), Lelo Metals is committed to improving its recycling processes and supporting a more sustainable future. Investing in equipment that helps us prepare scrap efficiently is part of that commitment.

Our new shear is one step in a continuing effort to make better use of material, improve yard operations and help customers recycle responsibly. By bringing unwanted metal to a dedicated recycling business, households and businesses can play their part too.

Looking for the best scrap yard in North Wales?

The best choice for your scrap should offer more than powerful machinery. Clear pricing, helpful advice, suitable collection or drop-off arrangements and professional processing all matter.

At Lelo Metals, we bring these priorities together. We are a family-run business based in Corwen, with more than 20 years of experience and competitive prices based on current market rates. Our investment in the new shear strengthens the processing capabilities behind that service.

Whether you are clearing household metal, managing trade waste or arranging an industrial clearance, our team can discuss what you have and help you choose the next step.
